Collecting Klein: Kirsteen Stewart

Fashion print designer and teacher, Kirsteen Stewart, shares her appreciation of Bernat Klein's textile design and colour.

I teach art and design alongside my practice as a fashion print designer. One of my students, Inga Croy, gave me this outfit, which she had originally bought for herself.

As well as buying original Bernat Klein outfits, Inga also had bought his fabrics and made her own. I love colour and she knew this would be right up my street!

During lockdown I ran an online campaign called ‘Get dressed for Friday’, encouraging everyone to dress-up in their best clothes. I wanted to help others feel inspired and bright. On a grey day in January I knew the very outfit that was needed - this Bernat Klein two piece.

I styled my Klein outfit by creating a cuff at the ankle so it was more a co-ordinated harem suit, which I love.

The impact online was instant, and I think it made me bolder too. I felt great, powerful, like I could do anything that day. I wanted to inspire others to wear bold colour too.

As a designer, I love Bernat Klein’s prints, and his use of colour is so joyful.
